1. Q: Why did Acer sponsor the WWCoG?
A: Acer believes that the future is where dependable IT solutions empower people to reach their goals and enhance their lives. Acer expresses a commitment to this vision through both business and philanthropy initiatives. Historically Acer has been involved in other women’s golf initiatives. The company sponsors the Acer Women’s South African Open on the local women’s tour, and also supports the Girls Golf Programme, a project aimed at empowering the daughters of caddies who are trained to participate economically in the game. This three-year contract provides us with the platform to grow our brand awareness, showcase our products and services on offer as well as generate increased international awareness of the country
2. Q: How will Acer be involved in the WWCoG?
A: Acer will be providing the wireless scoring for the WWCoG. This will be deployed at each hole and will be delivered through a complete solution of Acer desktops and servers, driven by Acer TravelMate C112TCi wireless tablets. Featuring ultra-low voltage Intel Pentium M processor technology at 1.1GHz, the TMC112TCi offers superior performance along with sophisticated wireless connectivity. The TMC112TCi comes with a 10.4-inch LCD screen that swivels easily between conventional notebook and tablet modes. The tablet also features an external DVD/CD-RW combo, external floppy drive, Intel 855GM chipset and audio system. At 2.5 cm thin, the light form factor of the computer makes it very easy to hold, whether sitting, standing, or moving about.
3. Q: What is Acer’s investment and commitment to the WWCoG?
A: Acer’s investment is confidential in terms of the contract. Empowering People is Acer’s long-tern commitment to improve the user experience by delivering innovative, intuitive products and services. Acer strongly believes in the ability of sports to empower – to energise and inspire people to be the best they can be, and break existing barriers. This notion also reflects Acer’s brand image and management style: proficient, innovative, and devoted to going above and beyond current limits to set new standards for enhanced productivity and a better life. Acer is an honoured sponsor of the WWCoG 2005, the first time the WWCoG is held in South Africa. As a global citizen we engage in a variety of sports sponsorships – including programmes for young competitors, to encourage healthy involvement in athletics as well as education.
4. Q: What ACER executives will attend the World WWCoG?
A: Acer’s strong presence in South Africa gave us the opportunity to leverage the enthusiasm of our employees to support the work for the WWCoG. With the hands on approach of Acer employees from South Africa we will contribute to something outside of our ICT environment and broaden the scope of our employees and women’s golf.
5. Q: Describe how ACER envisions that IT solutions empower people to reach their goals and enhance their lives?
A: Acer firmly believes that PCs should be considered as more than just home information centres – the PC is progressing toward becoming a household information and entertainment hub in the digital-home era. Hence, Acer has aggressively invested in and developed information entertainment technology over the past year, integrating wireless home networking and consumer electronics devices to develop a range of digital home products. The cornerstone of our Empowering Technology is our core business – PC – related products and services - and their evolution into home-digital devices and business-enhancing commercial management products. Acer’s tagline of empowering people sets new standards for enhanced productivity and a better life. Acer believes that empowerment drives productivity and productivity drives profitability and business success.
6. Q: How would ACER describe the ideal role of corporations in CSI and sponsorship?
A: Acer’s attitude towards CSI is that all organisations should care for its customers, stakeholders and environment and should implement a plan that is relevant to their business. As a global citizen, Acer engages in a variety of sports sponsorships – including programmes for young competitors, to encourage healthy involvement in athletics as well as education. Empowering People is Acer’s long-term commitment to improve the user experience by delivering innovative, intuitive products and services. Empowering people is not a project but a way of thinking that permeates everything that Acer does.
